By Gloria Dianne
Until you've walked a while in my shoes,
Don't toss me aside like yesterdays news.
Though I'm but a shadow of what used to be,
Don't turn away! I beg of you, please!
There's a real living being inside of this
Who's lived a full life, and lived it well.
I once was a child full of vigor and fun,
And wide eyed wonder of a life just begun.
I've passed many mile stones over my years.
I fought many battles, and conquered my
I was highly regarded in our society,
A leader and pillar of the community.
I've know both sorrow and happiness.
But now, I have outlived my usefulness.
Clearly, time has taken my youth away.
I'm weak and frail, my hair has thinned and
Life's burdens and woes have wrinkled my
My memories so dear, have all been erased.
My spirit is dwindling, my flesh is too weak.
My thoughts are confused when I try to
The ones that I cared for, now must care for
I pray you may never know such humility.
Alas! I've come full circle, I'm child-like
I've lost control of my life. On you I must
Untill I'm called Home by my Father above,
Treat me with kindness, compassion and love.
Give me all the respect that I am due.
Because one day, I just might be
When my heart is burdened,
And I'm full of doubt,
Fear distorts my vision,
I can see no way out.
When I have lost direction,
It is then I understand,
That it is time to let go,
And let God take command.
He is my Father,
My shepherd, and friend.
He gives me the strength
To begin again.
I can be everything
He intended of me.
Happy and healed,
Trusting and free.
His presence surrounds me,
His love light unfolds.
His power protects me,
From all I behold.
I will trust, without fear
In Him whom I praise.
To safely guide me
Through life's darkest days.
God has blessed me with so much,
I feel fortunate to be,
Part of the congregation,
In the house we built for thee.
It's more than a house of worship,
Where people bow in prayer.
It's a home filled with love,
And people who truly care.
You're always greeted with a smile,
A kiss, a hug or touch.
Friends who visit with us,
Feel God's presence very much.
We share each other's sorrow,
We feel each other's pain.
We rejoice in each other's joy,
And happiness the same.
It's a place where folks reach out,
To comfort a troubled soul.
There is always an out stretched arm,
To aid the weak and old.
Yes, God has truly blessed me,
With a wonderful family.
And I'm proud to be a part,
Of the home He built for me.
On a beautiful April morning, the sent of lilacs filled the air
with hints of Spring.
The rays from the morning sun warmed my face.
The silence of dawn was broken only by the sweet sounds of song birds.
Oh, how I love Spring!
The onset of each new Spring excites and rejuvenates the part of my soul that hibernates through the bleak chill of winter.
The day was warm, yet traces of a late winter's snow were sparsely
scattered beneath the trees that surrounded our charming country home.
Squinting through the sun light, I see the vibrant coloring of an Oriole perched just
outside my bed room window. What a splendid view!
My thoughts drifted back to a time I had awaken to see a curious
doe peering at me through my bedroom window.
Starvation and an exceptionally long and frigid winter forced the plighted doe
out from the safety of her baron environment to the shrubbery that grew in our yard.
I turned away from the window pulling the covers close to my face
and looked around the room I knew so well as a child.
Home, yes, I was home.
When someone touoches my heart
In any special way,
I call these gestures flowers,
And add them to my memory bouquet.
A flower can be anything.
A kind thought, a word, or deed.
And oh, such beauty blossoms,
From just one little seed!
Give me my flowers
While I can see
The love in your eyes
As you give them to me.
Speak words of kindness
While I can hear.
Let loved ones gather 'round me,
While I am still here.
If I have touched your life,
In any special way,
Please, don't wait until I'm gone,
Give me my flowers today!
